Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Heroes of Faerûn is designed as a beginner-friendly adventure, perfect for players stepping into the world of Dungeons & Dragons for the first time. We actively encourage new adventurers to join and learn the game in a welcoming, easy-to-follow enviroment.

Many veteran players started their journey with Lost Mines of Phandelver (The original Phandelver and Below), and it remains one of the most beloved entry points into the hobby. This adventure is intentionally more forgiving than others, giving new players room to learn the rules, explore their characters, and enjoy the experience without feeling overwhelmed. If you're new to Dungeons & Dragons, this is a great adventure to start with.

Unfortunately, these are not free-to-play adventures. We understand that paid games aren't for everyone, but there are real costs involved in running a high-quality TTRPG experience. Through platforms like StartPlaying, you're able to find games that fit your schedule, preferred playstyle, and budget. What you're paying for isn't just a seat at the table. It's a consistent, well-run experience.

At Chef's Dungeon, we focus on delivering that value. We maintain an active and organized Discord community, invest in tools and features that enhance gameplay, and continuously improve the overall experience for our players. A portion of our monthly proceeds also goes toward supporting German Shepherd rescues.

You're going to need a few things before you get started in your next adventure. All of the things we cover are free for our players to use and will not cost you any additional money. We'll start with the services you will need to sign up for in order to join an adventure:
  • Discord - For general Chat and Voice Channels
  • D&D Beyond - For your character sheet
  • Beyond20 - This isn't necessary but most players prefer it
  • Google Account - For reading google docs (like the rules document)

  • A computer or Laptop
  • Microphone or Headset
  • Notebook (If you want to keep notes)
  • Stable Internet Access (Can Test your internet here)
  • Required Internet Speed: 15-25 Mbps download

This Adventure takes place in the Faerûn Region, which is a very famous region of the world Toril. Many adventurers have visited this region and have many tales to tell about the experiences they've had in Faerûn. As you start this adventure, we'll start in the Northern area of Sword Coast North, an area of Faerûn that desperately needs the help of brave adventurers as their seems to be trouble around every corner.

You'll get a chance experience the major cities like Neverwinter, Luskan, Mirabar, Triboar, and Waterdeep as you travel through Faerûn. Your journey starts with a simple escort job in Neverwinter. A dwarf miner meets you in Waterdeep who has offered you a job. It's not a good paying job, but 10 gold and a free trip up to Neverwinter sounded like a good deal at the time. You take the job, and head to Neverwinter by ferry boat. Once you're in Neverwinter, you will meet a Lords' Alliance member at the front gates who will have the cart ready for you. Your job is to drive/escort this cart of provisions to a small town Called Phandalin, south of Neverwinter, and collect your payment at "Barthen's Provisions".

There's a plot twist though, You were not told that there was more people hired. You were expecting a quiet trip alone. As you travel on the ferry, you quickly find out that Gundren Rockseeker (the dwarf) has hired an entire team, without letting anyone know they're suppose to ride in a group. Only the Alliance member knows that he's expecting 4 - 6 adventurers before releasing the cart to you.

There's a lot of options for you to choose from for your backstory in the Faerûn Region. You can have endless amount of options when choosing a location. Finding lore and Information for the locations through sites like Forgotten Realms Wiki is a huge help. There are so many locations within Faerun that you can choose to place yourself. You don't even have to specifically choose a location within the Sword Coast North Region.

Looking for a visual map of Faerûn? D&D Beyond offers a free map. Just click the button below, and it'll bring you to a full sized Faerûn map. If you're having trouble zooming in and out on the map, use `ctrl` + mouse wheel. It's a very large map and will require zoom tool + the scroll bars on the bottom and right sides of your web browser to move around the map. Trying to click and move (like on google maps) will not work.

Most of the adventures will be weekly sessions. It's rare that Chef will post adventures that run biweekly or monthly. Majority of the people looking for games directly though startplaying are looking for weekly sessions for their next adventure. Chef might post biweekly or monthly ran adventures and will have that info posted on the official startplaying.games adventure page rather than here. This page will just show days and times.

Hall of Fallen Heroes

A tribute to our fallen friends

Here lie the fallen heroes of Faerûn — brave men and women who fought the good fight, stood against the darkness, and gave their lives in the pursuit of protecting the realm from the evil that threatened it. Though their journeys have come to an end, their courage, sacrifice, and stories shall live on forever. They now rest among the legends of Faerûn, never forgotten, and forever honored.

Pray for the fallen
